StoryBird : Telling A Story, With Style

What Is Storybird?

Telling a story has always been an integral part in a learning environment. Whether its related or unrelated to the learning itself. Both teachers and students have told a story to one another in the classroom. Storybird takes the whole experience to the next level. It allows you to create you own story using pre-designed
templates and cartoon illustrations which are both vibrant and creative.

What Is Great About The Tool

  • Due to its design, it may motivate the learners to write creatively.
  • A lot of artist and illustrations that are available.
  • It can be used to promote collaborative learning when the learners work together to create a story.
  • Allows the student to be creative and imaginative.
  • Promotes autonomy as the students can create other stories in their own time as it gives them reason to do so.

Some Limitations

  • Needs constant Internet connection
  • There is a bit of learning curve, thus the teacher needs to clearly explain how to use the tool or the learners might get confused

How Can The Teacher Use It In Class

Storybird can be useful in aiding the students understanding of a plot or the follow of a story, especially when teaching literature. This aspect could also be useful in essay writing as it can be used how they can create a coherent piece of writing.

Another idea that you could do with Storybird is collaborative writing. Teachers can put the learners in pairs and ask them to take turn in finishing a story page by page. As a result, the finished product can then be shared to their other classmates. After that , they can share their thoughts on each others story and provide some  feedback on it based on a success criteria or just some general points.
